Learn Defold by Building a Real Game
I'm building UptownZero — a pixel-art life-sim, live, in the open — and documenting every part of it: the wins, the dead ends, and the Defold lessons I'm learning along the way as a longtime Godot developer making the switch for this one project.
What this is
I run a small indie studio and ship most of my games in Godot. UptownZero is different — a browser-first, persistent pixel-art town where load time and instant access matter more than almost anything else, and that's exactly where Defold's web export pulls ahead. This site tracks that build as it happens: real progress, real problems, real code — not a polished tutorial series written after the fact.
Devlog
Posts run roughly weekly, in the order I actually hit these problems — not a curated "best practices" order. If you're learning Defold yourself, follow along in real time.
New to Defold?
Start with the official manual and the Discord — the team and community answer questions fast. I'll link the specific docs/forum threads that helped me at the bottom of each devlog post.
